REVIEW: Heartless by Mary Balogh I’ve been in a reading slump lately and decided to try Heartless, Such was the case with Heartless. A couple of years ago I picked up Heartless, the first book I had ever read by Mary Balogh and went into the lost-in-a book zone. I went to work. Heartless, first published in , was a new venture for me. It is a Georgian historical, set during the 18th century, several decades earlier than most of my other.

Anna meets Lucas, Duke of something or other, who has only recently returned to England after spending 10 years in Paris pouting over his butthurt feelings after he had a falling-out with his family about a duel with his heartlfss.
I never felt like I really knew her, and I didn’t feel like the hero knew her either. Why would he wait for his crazy? I haven’t read as many Georgians, so the spiffied up, lace-bedecked, bewigged, powered, high-heel wearing hero was a different thing for me.
But did she do it?
The heroine was perfect – a witty Stepford smiler trying to deal with dark secrets and a stalker. I found the numerous references to balogn mysterious him or he to be a little annoying. The villain is hair-raisingly omniscient and the ow is suitably selfish and nasty. Anna is hiding a secret.
It was still one of the worst books I read in I liked it at the beginning, there was a mystery to it, I was nary by the characters but it all went down in a moment, like a castle made of sand. I’ve enjoyed Mary’s other novels and look forward to the next one featuring Ashley and Emma.

I foolishly thought this was the first of a new Balogh series. Wow, I found this to be an annoying read.

Read Mary Balogh’s Survivor series instead, that series is great. She has written more than one hundred historical novels and novellas, more than thirty of which have heartlees New York Times bestsellers. I would probably give this book a higher rating than two stars if I were a bigger fan of romance novels, but I didn’t feel right giving it three either.
Desert Isle Keeper
That actually made me laugh out loud, but I’m sure that wasn’t the intention I love that Lucas verbalizes love first. View all 23 comments. Those are my favorite scenes in the book.
