This book is one of my childhood favourites. I read it over and over again, and it never got dull. I am currently reading a book about the Romanov family, so it seemed appropriate to read this at the same time. Russian gajka tales are never light-hearted, but then folk tales seldom are. Of course, who wouldn’t be charmed by a darling little horse with big soft ears and the wisdom of the ages?

Can somebody can help me and tell me where I can finde it, please? An epic poem that tells a number of compelling anecdotes with lots of laughs and adventure. I especially marveled at the translation – 80 full pages of rhymed couplets, and only a handful of imperfect rhymes. A true job well done.

And more than that, it’s so easy to read – it just rolls off the tongue. I think a lot of kids would enjoy this, especially if read slowly in order to enjoy the language.
