An Autobiography Revolutionary Suicide. But I saw you yesterday, standing with your hands in your pockets waiting for the real deal to shakuur down. Instead she reveals the contradictions inherent in many revolutionary movements and makes it clear that she was often confused or lost in her political journey.
This book is also chock-full of historical tidbits you’ll never find in any classroom. She also became pregnant and gave birth while incarcerated during her many trials, and wrote about the experience with such beautiful insight into both the reality of her situation and the strength of her hope for the future that I recommend it to all.

I also enjoyed the intertwining poems with the chapters in the book. Assata Shakur is alive. Liberation, Imagination and the Black Panther Party: Bruce Franklinwho excerpts Shakur’s book in a class on ‘Crime and Punishment in American Literature,’ describes her as a “revolutionary fighter against imperialism”. The whole running away from home, in the beginning and the getting pregnant while being under arrest.
I was thoroughly unimpressed with the autobiography and came to the conclusion that I do not know why it was written – seriously. From Marcus Garvey to Louis Farrakhan.
But i saw you yesterday in the playground. This is perhaps so far the greatest book I’ve read in a long, long time. Once you study auhobiography really get a good understanding of the way the system in the United States works, then you see, without a doubt, that the civil rights movement never had a chance of succeeding.

All the things I ever look for in a book. Shakur was charged with two bank robberiesthe kidnapping of a Brooklyn heroin dealer, the attempted murder of two Queens police officers stemming from a January 23,failed ambush, and eight other felonies related to the Turnpike shootout.
Her other texts in the book are a July 4, speech “To My People”which was broadcast on many radio stations, an exposition on the theory of “armed revolutionary struggle”, and many poems. I am not certain that she knows why she alters the spelling of these words or decides to go against “standard” American English rules of American English spelling. Something like 6 times before she was found guilty in a kangaroo kourt she had been acquitted, and had cases thrown out – because the fake story they cooked up was too stupid for any jury to fall for – even the racist, all white ones.

After some reflection, my thoughts are that this was a condemnation of the suicidal violence mentality she encountered during her time in the Black Panther Party.
